Mr. & Mrs. F.D. “Pat” Tighe Endowment Fund

Established 1981

Francis D. & Alice E. Tighe
Francis D. & Alice E. Tighe

Two endowment funds were established within the Foundation by Francis D. “Pat” and Alice E. Tighe. The first was created in 1981 and the second in 1995.

This fund was created in 1981 to assist the Fox Valley Park District’s Friendly Center Club.  It was established as an endowment in 1990.

The second fund was established through a bequest received from the estate of Mr. Tighe in 1995 for the benefit of Holy Angels Catholic Church of Aurora.

“Pat” Tighe (1907-1995) was the chief of police in Aurora during the 1950’s.

He then joined the brokerage firm of Scrap Corporation of America, retiring in 1990.

Mr. Tighe also was a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1941 to 1945.

Alice Tighe (1911-1990) was a member of Holy Angels Church, Ladies of Columbus, Friendly Center Club and Mercy Center Auxiliary.

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.

Thank you very much for supporting my college education for these four years. I will never be able to repay you for the opportunity that this scholarship has given to me.

Julia H.

[Renewing Scholarship Recipient] Graduate of Hinkley-Big Rock High School

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!
