Equine Dreams Receives $20K Grant From Community Foundation

Equine Dreams would like to express its gratitude to the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley for awarding us with $20,000 for fencing.  We will use this money to fence in our horses at our new property, which is located in Newark, IL.  After 10 years of utilizing “borrowed” land, we recently acquired our own property from a generous land donation from Mary Margaret Bieber.  In 2008, Equine Dreams broke ground at our new site, and are currently planning our new facility.

Equine Dreams is a not-for-profit therapeutic riding program dedicated to providing free sessions to children and adults with disabilities.  The horse provides a unique multidimensional therapy tool.  We provide services to 3 surrounding counties, and in 2008, we had over 100 participants each week.  Our program is unique in that we provide services at no charge.  Our very qualified staff is all volunteers; with 6 certified therapeutic riding instructors, including one physical therapist and one occupational therapist.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the Community Foundation for their continued support of our mission.  We appreciate their confidence in our ability to continue to provide a truly unique and beneficial service to this community.  The Community Foundation is a non-profit corporation that administers philanthropic charitable funds and distributes grants to benefit the Fox River Valley Area.

There’s no question in my mind that the scholarship I received opened up possibilities.

…you can always start small, even $25 can make a difference. Remember we can’t take our money with us. Even if it’s just your gift of time. Volunteer and get involved.

Thank you very much for supporting my college education for these four years. I will never be able to repay you for the opportunity that this scholarship has given to me.

Julia H.

[Renewing Scholarship Recipient] Graduate of Hinkley-Big Rock High School

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.

Sharon Stredde

We chose the Community Foundation because of its reputation. It’s well known, established and we can trust them to do the job for us.
