Donna Williams

The Lucas Family Fund was created by Donna J. Williams to support her philanthropic objectives in honor of her family.

Donna Williams, who passed away on June 17, 2014, was a member of the Community Foundation Board of Directors from 2011 to 2014.

She was a dedicated member of the Community Foundation Distribution Committee, overseeing the awarding of grants to local non-profit organizations.

A lifelong resident of Aurora, Williams graduated from East Aurora High School.

She then received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Northern Illinois University.

After a thirty-four year teaching career at Nicholson Elementary School in West Aurora School District 129, she served as principal at the Quad County Urban League’s alternative school for East and West Aurora middle school students.

Ms. Williams was a board member of the Aurora Civic Center Authority, the Aurora Historical Society and the YWCA Aurora.

She also was one of the senior leaders of Main Baptist Church.

As a first-generation college student from a low-income family, I was worried about how I was going to pay for books and supplies. This scholarship will allow me to focus more on my studies instead of worrying about how to afford college. I am working to not only create opportunities for myself but to motivate future generations. Thank you so much for helping me along this journey!

We chose the Community Foundation because of its reputation. It’s well known, established and we can trust them to do the job for us.

…you can always start small, even $25 can make a difference. Remember we can’t take our money with us. Even if it’s just your gift of time. Volunteer and get involved.

A community foundation is a donor-driven organization that helps donors custom-design funds that reflect their charitable interests. Through the years, grants from these funds have made a significant impact on our local communities.
